PoS (Proof of Stake)

Proof-of-Stake (PoS) is a way for blockchain networks to agree on transactions and add new blocks. Unlike Proof-of-Work (PoW), which needs lots of computing power, PoS uses how much cryptocurrency people own. In PoS, validators make and check blocks based on the cryptocurrency they have and are willing to risk. Validators are chosen based on how much crypto they have and how long they've had it. They're rewarded for being honest, but if they act badly, they could lose their crypto. PoS is praised for using less energy than PoW and letting more people join without special equipment. Ethereum 2.0, Cardano, and Tezos are moving to PoS for these reasons.
